Natural Cleaning 2010 series-finishing the bathroom

Lets finally finish the bathroom! I have been a busy bee these days and unfortunately that cut into my blogging time.
So we discussed the bathtub and toilet in depth.

So it is a good time to wash walls and clean out cabinets.

Washing walls is very simple with your own solution of 2 tbsp borax, a wee bit of liquid soap or vinegar and 15-20 drops of lemon essential oil in a 1 quart spray bottle.
I like lemon because it is cheerful, fresh, and helps to brighten, but you can use any essential oil you choose, or leave it out completely. If you dont have borax, baking soda will work or even just soap and water.
I discussed wall washing in an earlier post so lets move onto the sink.
Again, a simple sprinkle of baking soda and a scrubber does wonders for cleaning the sink and making it shine. Sometimes i like to add my protect essential oil blend for cleaning and killing germs at the same time (and it smells so great)
Look at what is on your sink countertop. Try to organize things so that it is in order and makes you feel good when you walk in the bathroom.
I have a little picture, keep a bottle of booty oil and room spray on my tiny counter for convenience sake. It does not look real nice but I do have it organized so that it looks ok.
If you have a medicine chest, now is a good time to take everything out of there and get rid of old medicines and miscellany that is no longer needed.
You can clean the small cracks, shelf holders or mirror sliders with a toothbrush and a little soap and water, or spray your toothbrush with your own spray solution and then scrub.
Things you use often should be within easy reach. Things that are dangerous for your children, should be put up high, and what I do is keep those things in a completely separate area up high where they usually do not need to go into much.
I keep a first aid kit where they can get to it and most everything in there is all they need. Other drugs and medicines are out of sight and I can administer those if I need to.
Old toothbrushes can be replaced and check the ingredients on your toothpaste as well. Some of the ingredients are not really necessary, such as sudsing chemicals like sodium laurel sulfate. Flouride is in some, but there are others in natural food stores that do not contain this by product if you prefer not to have it in your toothpaste. For many of us that have city water, there is already flouride in the water anyway. If you love your toothpaste, cool. We all have things we love using and that is ok. I believe that if we all contribute what we can to environmental and personal health, this works wonders instead of giving up everything we love. Although you may find that safer products you will love to.
We enjoy Auramere toothpaste quite a bit which has neem and peelu.
Neem is great for oral health as well as myrrh which you can find in other brands.
The most important thing a dentist told me once was simply to brush. Even if no toothpaste is on the brush, he said brushing was what was effective.

Clean out your cabinets the same way, getting rid of the old and bring in the new things you actually do need. That old water bottle you have not used in 5 years might be something to keep, but other things just clutter when you know you do not like it or wont use again.
Keeping things you need most often easy to reach.
I keep toilet paper, extra toothbrushes, our hair brushes and combs, hair dryer, nail clippers and things like that in our cabinets. Safe when people come over and we can usually find things in a pinch.

Some of you may have a linen closet so this is a good time to do the same. Towels you just dont like can be turned into rags or donated. Old towels are great on camping or beach trips because you really do not care if they get ripped or stained.

Then your mirrors. Fill a spray bottle half vinegar and half water. Add a few drops of lemon essential oil if you would like as it wont streak. Some people like rubbing alcohol in their spray with a couple drops of liquid soap. I find the vinegar and water does an excellent job of cleaning the mirrors well and I can wipe anything dusty or dirty with that solution as well when in between cleaning.

It is so wonderful to clean with the basics.

We are off to visit family for a couple weeks so I send blessings and wish you all the best of this beautiful season of rebirth.
