The blessings of friends and plants

What a glorious weekend! The sun was out with minimal rain,a group of about 30 people took a camping trip and I brought along my jars and oils to do some harvesting.
The plants were amazing! I tell you what, between nature, the beautiful people I was with and the plant world, my soul was soothed yet another day!
We began setting up tents. Jon and Jeff put ours up because it is quite large and it takes me forever. Thanks Jeff!!!

Our main hang for the evening.

The view of the mountains looking toward Granite Hot Springs

Cinquefoil is blooming

Sedum

Woodland Star

Nettles

Slippers of the Fae

Sulphur Buckwheat

Arnica

Back at Camp we got music

and games

A night full of fun, food, laughter, and tired kids. 5 of us stayed around the fire until midnight discussing aliens, the environment and the ocean.

The next morning I awake to beautiful people in this glorious place

And Pronghorn

Dave is always so fun! He takes the kids riding in the kayak this morning. They were siked!

And since I tend to take advantage of every opportunity out in the wild, my first quart of arnica oil macerates in the mountain sun after a delightful day of harvest.

Another event this evening....wonder how many of us actually make it:)

  1. Thanks so much for the beautiful post! I am looking forward to getting out in the wild myself. I am just learning about herbs. Can you suggest a good book to identify them? Hope you have a fantastic summer full of herbal adventure.

  2. Ashe, just start with a book from your region if they have any. In Santa Fe, there is a long tradition of medicinal and edible lore that I am certain you could find.
I started with a Petersens when I lived in the south, and I think you would be considered the Rocky Mtn range but you are also desert, so that is why I say see if there are any...even at your local library. The late Michael Moore(herbalist) also ran a shoppe in NM before he relocated to Az and his stuff is full of those desert plants:)
